MBE 2014 Best Model: Uloaku Anaba Phillip (The Eagle)

Uloaku Anaba Phillip  at MBE 2014 Gala
Meet Uloaku Anaba Phillip, a law graduate of Babcock University (Nigeria), called to the Nigerian Bar, and obtained Masters degree in Security, Intelligence and Diplomacy at the University of Buckingham.

How far would you go in branding yourself for the success of your career and development as a lawyer, model and pageant? I believe the question about branding is not just the question about the presentation of 'self' in such a way that you are a better option among your peers (competition); but it is about being the only option when it comes to what you do. So I am willing to give over a 100% in all my heart and hands finds to do. It’s all about excellence and I will go as far as excellence demands in my career as a legal luminary as well a model and a security expert.

What is success to you? Success to me is a journey that ends only when am dead. It is not a destination; it is rather a journey with different stages to it. Also, to me the indicators of success are important landmarks for me on the journey of success. It is the ever increasing sense of fulfilment that I get in what I do. Something as little as putting a smile on the face of a friend or stranger by lending a helping hand.

What is commitment and agreement to you? To me, commitment and agreement are closely related. I think commitment is a function of an agreement in a given situation in which people accept something or accept to do something. So one can then say commitment is the willingness to do that ‘something’ that one agrees with. However, I must add that depending on the context, the usage of the two words may vary.
Looking back into your journey and what you have achieved so far; who and what inspired you? God inspires me most in my life and what inspires me most about him is the wisdom he has bestowed upon me which can be found in the scriptures. For instance: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 made it very clear that “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. In summary the good works so far in my journey have been God and will always be.

Which animal would you compare yourself with and why? I would compare myself to an Eagle. This is because the Eagle is a one of a kind…has no equal among birds. She soars high and even uses the storm to soar higher…am talking about the storm from which other kinds of birds run and hide. So yes, I like to think of myself as an Eagle because am one of a kind (Smiles). Plus God uses the Eagle to describe the one who waits upon Him. This makes it all perfect! So next time you see me you are permitted to call me The Eagle (Smiles).
We know that you love giving back to your community in your own way; what have you done so far, and what are your plans for the future? Oh yes I do love giving back to my community. I look around and there are so much that need to be done. Women empowerment, girl-child education and care for the aged, poverty alleviation, basic healthcare; the list goes on. I am currently working with my Mum on some projects geared towards supporting and caring for the elderly. There are also few things lined up for the New Year. Let me not disclose so much… *Smiles*
You were the winner of MBE Improver Awards under the category Best Model; what does this mean to you? Hmmm…it was quite empowering, I would say. People voted and I am honored to have been chosen. And it means so much to me. It goes to show that people are watching what you do no matter how little. In fact it has become a constant reminder to brighten the corner where I am!
For few readers that don’t know you, what would you like them to know about you and to always remember you for?
Well, for anyone out there who may not know me, I would say this: I am an open book and a closer look will reveal that I love effective impact! If it doesn’t help in any way, I don’t want to be part of it. And like I said earlier, I am out to do all that excellence demands. I would love people to remember me as the lady with the effective impact: unstoppable, unmovable; as one who sees opportunities where most see obstacles. As an Eagle.

Many Thanks!

Uloaku Anaba Phillip
