On March 1st 2008 the very first Miss Africa Canarias was held, with funds raised went to help orphans. It is the first event of its kind in the Canary Islands, and in Spain as a whole, it was organised by Sola Opesan Brown.
The Miss Africa Canarias beauty contest is not only about
beauty. it is also about uniting Africans and other people from different
parts of the world to celebrate African heritage and promote African
culture in Canarias and all over the world, and celebrating integration
in Canarias. 16 African beauties competed for the Miss Africa
Canarias title at the Hotel Gran Tacande, Costa Adeje, and the event was sponsored by a number of local, regional and
international companies, including Dream Place Hotels and Resorts, Fred
Olsen, Gmen Nigeria Oil Ltd, Island Connections, Lady Monica, Bruno, Living in Tenerife and Heineken among others.
